History of the 87th Mountain Infantry, Italy 1945

History of the 87th Mountain Infantry, Italy 1945

Quick Overview

Large size hardcover book that contains 216 pages with many photos and drawings. There are several post-its in the book. The first one has the name Herman Brodzenski and 10th Mtn Division. Herman J. Brodzenski, ASN 35599507, enlisted on January 19, 1943. He served with C battery of the 616th Field Artillery Battalion of the 10th Mountain Division veteran. It seems he was the orginal owner of the book. The other post-its refer to PFC Paul F. Schiller, ASN 36642023, who served with B Company of the 87th Mountain Infantry Regiment. Schiller is mentioned on several pages of the book (with post its) and in the roster. In January 1945, along with the Division's other artillery units, the 616th deployed to Italy, where it primarily supported the 87th Infantry Regiment in combat operations. It seems obvious Schiller was a buddy of Brodzenski. With the book is a citation dated March 1945 for an award Schiller received. He was killed in action one month later.... This document seems to be original and was sent to Schiller's wife. There are also copies of the honor roll of the unit and of a photo of the marker on Schiller's grave. In all a poignant relic.
The book is very specific about all unit actions and casualties. Excellent source for reading and research and must have for the WWII history buff or anyone with a specific interest in the 10th Mountain Division.

Very good condition.
