M-1 Helmet with Westinghouse liner, WAC ID-ed

M-1 Helmet with Westinghouse liner, WAC ID-ed

Quick Overview

McCord 'fixed' bail' steel shell with heat stamp 754C. It has its original textured paint and OD3 shade 11 row weave chinstraps with steel raised bar buckle. The liner is an ultra rare Westinghouse with rayon suspension with rectangular washers. The rarity is the fact this suspension is combined with a removable leather chinstrap with flat lever buckle. (The rarity of this liner is such that it is not even in my M-1 helmet book as it was unknown at that time of writing. The liner can be seen as a variation of the Type 1 high pressure plastic liner. It is safe to say this type of liner is missing from about all collections.) To top it off the helmet is ID-ed to WAC Mary L. Jewell, ASN A-603704, who enlisted on January 27, 1943. Here full name and ASN is written with pencil on the inside of the steel shell. Her laundry mark J3704 is on the long chinstrap of the steel shell and on a V loop of the suspension. In all a perfect helmet that deserves a special place in a collection. View the many photos.
