Quick Overview

Medium size hard cover book. It was printed in Nurnberg, Germany and most likely in 1945. It contains 82 pages with many photos and is complete with its multi color fold out campaign map in the back. It also has rosters with the names of the men who served with the unit and the list of names with men who were killed in combat. The 745th Tank Battalion was an independent tank battalion that participated in the European Theater of Operations. It was one of five independent tank battalions that landed in Normandy on D-Day. The battalion participated in combat operations throughout northern Europe until V-E Day. Unlike many independent tank battalions, which were attached to different units over time, the 745th was attached to the 1st Infantry Division for the duration of its combat operations in the ETO. It was inactivated in October 1945.
This is the extremely hard to find original unit book, not some reprint and it is in decent shape, certainly considering fact it was printed on fragile paper in Germany. It does have slight stare damage at the top along the spine but this is hardly a distraction. This particular book belonged to Private John L. Comfort, ASN 42165801, who entered the 745th as a replacement and served with D Company. Comfort is listed in the book and can also be seen on the photo of D Company (4th from right). This is a rare book of a small unit and a 'must have' for the WWII history buff or anyone with a specific interest in D Day, the 1st Division or the 745th Tank Battalion. View the many photos.
