Quick Overview

Poignant document group ID-ed to Earl E. Eichelberger, ASN 33723930, who enlisted on May 1, 1943. Eichelberger served as a PFC with Company E, 309th Infantry Regiment, 78th Division when he was killed in Germany on March 14, 1945 at the age of 23. There are the rare Western Union telegrams sent by the Government in Washington, one of March 29 reporting Eichelberger is missing in action, the other of April 2 stating he was killed in action... Also included are two letters in one envelope, two V mails and one letter on Red Cross stationary. All these were written by Eichelberger to his wife in 1945. The contents is very moving. Eichelberger is buried in Belgium on the American War Cemetery-Henri Chapelle cemetery, plot C, Row 15, Grave 48. The photos of Eichelberger and his marker and more information can be found on This group may be researched further and deserves properly framing and a place in a collection.
